New Year’s Day 2018
I decided to keep this day just like any other day because tomorrow is just like any other day and I need to stay on track.
But, it is the start of a new year, and I do need to set my intention for the year. I started doing this a couple of years ago instead of making resolutions because resolutions have never worked for me and goals just always seemed to take too long. (Have I mentioned I have no patience) So, I started this intention setting with just a one-word intention for the year. It allows me to make progress in the most minuscule way and I don’t get upset or down if I miss a goal. I still have things that I strive for like goals, but I do them on a much smaller scale, and they have to fit with the intention word. I get so much more done that way.
In 2017, my word was profit. It was intended to make sure that when I filed my taxes this year, my business would show a profit for the year because if I did not, it would no longer be considered a business. So, little things happened all year, and I actually redefined what I wanted to do for my clients. I built a new website and narrowed my services to just two things. In the end, I did show a profit in 2017. It was a small profit, but it was a profit, and all those small things got my business to a place where I am happy with it.
In 2018, my word is HEALTH. My focus is on my physical and mental health, but I can also focus a little bit on the health of my business too. I am hoping that at the end of the year, I will have focused on my health and I will no longer feel as broken, I will have more energy and I will feel more alive. I know that this will take a lot of changes in my life, but I have finally listened, and I realize that my body is the only place that I have to live. When it feels bad, I feel bad. So, if I want to do better, I need to feel better even with this chronic illness.
So, I will do small changes each day, and those will add up to helping me be more healthy in this year and hopefully for life. My first small change has already happened, I created a workout space in my house to help me get moving. I know that movement is so important to keeping my fibro in check, but it is often hard for me to get out in the cold to go to the gym. So, with this workout space, I can keep my movement going on the days that I don’t want to go out in the cold.
I would love to hear if you have a word for 2018 or if you find success with a different form of intention or resolution setting. Basically, do you have a way to make this year better than the last? Let me know in the comments.
I wish you a happy New Year. Keep moving, Keep striving forward. I know you can do it!
