I had a dream last night that I was helping a homeless woman and her family. I woke up with that image in my head and immediately thanked the Universe for all the blessings that I have in my life.
I was also struggling with what to write this week. I am busy at work and at home. There is lots of change happening, and it always makes me a little uneasy. A little worried about the future. There is that little thought in the back of my head, “What if I become that woman?”
So, I decided that I would focus on my blessing this week. And give you an idea of how I do that.
I like to list them out. No order, very random and doing big and little things.
I am blessed to have a roof over my head that is heated and cooled.
I am blessed to have plenty of food to eat.
I am blessed to have plenty of clothes to wear.
I am blessed to have clean socks and shoes that keep my feet warm and dry.
I am blessed to have good family.
I am blessed to have great friends.
I am blessed to have beauty in my life through art and dance and nature.
I am blessed to have a good job that I love.
I am blessed to work with great people.
I am blessed to have hobbies that I love and make me happy.
I am blessed to have time to work on hobbies.
I am blessed to live in a great community.
I could go on from there, but this is enough for today. It is a chance to remember all the good we have in our lives.
Sometimes when I am really down, I will just list out all the good things in my life. All the way down to the flickering candles in my living room. Big and little things. They are all important, and they all need to be on the list.
I know this can be a really hard exercise. It takes lots of practice, and I think that is good. Remembering my blessings helps me look at life on the positive side. I find that I can still get annoyed at life but doing this exercise reminds me that I have it pretty good. Little annoyances are just that, and I can move past them quickly.
