Something a little different this week.
I love to read.
It has been this way since the 4th grade when Mrs. Rosen finally figured out how to get me to like books. I have been an avid reader since. In fact, many of my childhood weekends were spent in my room reading a book.
In those childhood days, I loved reading a book and having it take me someplace that I never could have gone. I love historical fiction.
In my adulthood, I had started to read more non-fiction and got into biographies and self-help books.
But the last two years have had me looking for an escape in my reading. Something that didn’t remind about pandemics or wars or other ugly topics.
So, I read a book about a guy and his wife who transported their crazy amount of rescue dogs across the country in some RVs. Loved the writing and then started reading the author’s mystery series books that all have a dog theme.
I figured out that these short mystery books were easy to read, kept me interested, and gave me the escape I was looking for.
And now I have discovered a whole genre of books called cozy mysteries.
I am completely hooked.
They are shorter books that generally take place in some small town (I really want to move to one) where everyone is involved in solving the mystery but there is usually a woman who is leading the charge. They are not gory and sometimes there is a love interest that takes me back to some of the cheesy romances I used to read. And I am addicted to them. Sometimes the stories are fantastical but if the writer is good, I generally don’t figure out the who-done-it part until I am supposed to. They are a complete escape.
Life has been pretty heavy this week. My first week back after vacation showed me that I am still not completely over my burnout and my parents leave to go home on this coming Tuesday, so I was feeling a little down. I jumped right back into reading these books and they keep me distracted. I am even trying out a Kindle unlimited membership so that I can read a few series ones for the next few weeks. Distraction is good for me right now.
How about you guys, are you big readers and if so, what are you reading these days?
I wish you a good week full of happy things!
